Ahm Answers...

Ahm is not famous in Mid/Perc, but those who know him well have all been changed by his dedication to helping his guildmates out, even at his own expense. On VN Boards, others have cited him as being very influential in their own guild leadership styles and/or personal interactions for precisely that reason.
  1. What kind of leadership do you do in DAoC? (e.g., guild leadership? leading multi-group PvE or RvR raids? RvR gank groups? all of the above?)

All of the above. Guild leadership, and RvR groups when I'm not hitting every aggro mob in the area! I try, with the guild officers, to try create a nice friendly, fun, atmoshpere in the guild for everyone.

  2. Have you had any formal leadership training in RL? (e.g., military, leadership seminars, etc.)

None. I can't recall any any sort of outside training at any time, except perhaps from cub scouts when i was ten :) Aside from that, nothing comes to mind.

  3. What background has helped you become the leader you are now? it>(e.g., raising kids, just plain leading raids in DAoC, having been a business leader, etc.)

Pehaps from my family, they've always tried to include everyone in events, I suppose the the way I interact with everyone is a trait I learned from them. My family would definitely be my most important background.

  4. What background/experience (in and out of game) has helped you with the *tactics and strategies* of RvR?

  5. . What is your approximate age? (20-24, 25-29; or 20-29, 30-39, etc.)

    30-39

  6. Do you have or have you had your own family? (i.e., live(d) in your own household (not your parents') with at least one other person)

My own house, good location and it came with a wife, 4 yr old girl, and 2 year old son. I couldn't pass up on this deal!!

  7. What are your goal(s) and motivation(s) as a leader? (e.g., to win? to make sure everyone has a good time? RPs? fame & fortune?)

To create the best playing envoirment for everyone I can. You lead by example, you should never do things you don't wish others to do. Your actions show more than words ever can... sometimes we must make self-sacrifices and do things to help others at our expense of time.

  8. What are the most important traits of a good leader, and what, in your opinion, distinguishes a good leader from a *bad* leader?

You lead by example, act how you would expect others to act. Take the time to talk to everyone, show interest with everyone and give someone credit where credit is due. A little praise or compliment goes a long way. Negativity repells people, keep a positive mood, it's effect will spread to everyone :)

  9. What should an aspiring leader always keep in mind? What mistakes should he/she avoid? (Multple answers ok)

Take the time to talk to everyone, and see how they feel.

    - Lead by example, act how you would expect others to act.
    - Treat everyone in a mature, friendly manner. Losing your temper or composure is never appropriate.
    - When dealing with people in a disiplinary manner, always use private tells. It serves no purpose to ridicule someone over a public or guild group.
    - Have fun it's contagious, an upbeat postive attitude will always effect others.
  10. What, in your opinion, makes a good follower?

Willing to make a sacrifice of their time to help others, ability to help others and encourage others to become involved in different activites. Someone who treats everyone with respect, even those they may dislike.

  11. Do you have a leader role-model, or someone whose style you emulate in whole or part?

The best role-model I could ever have is my father, he had a way to make everyone feel included and would leave a smile on everyone's face. I hope that I can be half the father he was to my children. Other than that, there is no single person I can think of whose style i'd emulate.

  12. Who do you think are other good leaders (in game/out of game)?

Galroth and Snapp come to mind. Out of game I would say individuals who sacrifice their time and positions of power to help others. I firmly believe you lead by example, and people who use what abilities they have to harass world leaders and government bodies for positive change to our planet and people. Those are the real leaders in this world, people who genuinely wish to help others, not those trying to advance thier careers or get their 15 minutes of fame. [For example] I would look to Bono from U2, he's used his position of fame to harass world leaders and governmant bodies to make changes that benefit our planet and people. I see more effort for positive change that he's tried then the last 20 years of our federal government.

  13. Any more comments on your own style of leadership (and/or "followship")?

Have fun, be respectful, never lose your cool and lead by example. A person is judged by thier words, but more importantly by thier actions, I always try to help and involve people. Leadership is also only as good as the people around you, without the officers and guildmates around me, midgard would not be the same, nor would I.

  14. Bonus question: Some of you role-play while leading. Any comments on the role of roleplaying with leadership?

Role-playing makes the game a little funner, I think everyone should try and stay along those lines.. most of the time anyways :)

  15. Do you think leadership in DAoC has had positive (or even negative) effects in you and your Real Life? If so, in what way?

  16. If you have alts that take up leadership, do you find that followers treat you differently when they don't know it's "you"?
